Born on December 12, 1970 in Cairo, New York, she was raised in an interfaith family that was Roman Catholic and Jewish. She was raised near the Brooklyn Bridge and attended Saint Anne’s, a private school with an artistic focus. A friend of the family suggested that she try out to be a model at the age of 10. Her parents sent her head shots to Ford Modeling Agency, which quickly added her to the roster. While she never planned to veer away from modeling to embrace acting, her mother enrolled her in acting auditions and she was cast in the film Once Upon a Time in America in 1984. She continued acting in smaller roles while attending Yale University and Stanford University. She dropped out of college in 1990 to focus solely on her acting career. Connelly went on to star alongside David Bowie in the 1986 cult-classic, Labyrinth. Afterward, she appeared in successful films, such as: The Hot Spot, Career Opportunities, The Rocketeer, Mulholland Falls, Dark City, Requiem for a Dream, A Beautiful Mind, Hulk, Dark Water, Reservation Road, He's Just Not That Into You, The Dilemma, Winter's Tale, and Noah.
