He began taking uncredited film roles in movies like No Way Out, No Man's Land, and Less Than Zero in 1987. He made his television debut shortly after in a two-part episode of the NBC soap opera, Another World. His first major television roles included guest spots on Growing Pains, Dallas, and 21 Jump Street. A year later, in 1988, Pitt was given his very first feature film role in The Dark Side of the Sun. The two have six children together, three of which have been internationally adopted. They are both supporters of same-sex marriage, and often raise awareness for issues going on in other countries.
